Loíza, 1990
Vídeo VHS
The history of Loíza Aldea’s celebrations traces its roots to the centuries long war in Spain between the Christians and the Moors, symbolized by the figures of the Vejigante (devil) and the Knight. The festival celebrates the image of Santiago Matamoros (the “moor killer”), defender and symbol of the Christian victory over Paganism.
