5 color photograps and 5 black and white photographs

Portraiture is a unique category in itself. The photographic instant, the light and the setting determine how the personality of the sitters transcends the moment in time. Due to Méndez Caratini’s close relationship with the master Puerto Rican painter Francisco Rodón, he was able to meet a number of international personalities from Puerto Rico and Latin América. This series marks the beginning of the photographer’s lifelong interest in portraiture. These five color images were taken for the exhibition Our Journeys Our Stories (2003) organized by the Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Latino Initiatives and toured by SITES.
