Like Jack Delano in his seminal series Contrastes, where he compared the Puerto Rico of the late 1940’s with the 1980’s, Méndez Caratini began in 1974 to preserve a visual memory of the past which was rapidly disappearing. The jíbaro of yesterday is not the jíbaro of today. The rural and urban landscapes are not the same and will be unknown to future generations.
